Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center Graduate Fellowships
The SCRMC Graduate Fellowship Program is a new interdisciplinary pre-doctoral program which aims to support the training of UW graduate students in interdisciplinary stem cell and regenerative medicine research. The program is funded by the UW SCRMC.
We are currently accepting applications Deadline for applications will be January 1, 2010 for review by January 15, 2010.
A major strength of this program is the range of stem cell expertise at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, including:
- Cutting edge basic research examining mechanisms of pluripotency and differentiation of stem cells.
- Development of innovative, enabling technologies for stem cell culture and regenerative medicine.
- A broad range of translational research exploring stem cell-based therapies for degenerative diseases of the brain, heart, blood, pancreas, and more.
- An active bioethics program examining the challenges and promise of stem cells.
In addition, this program is supported by unique education and training resources at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, including:
- Multiple graduate courses related to interdisciplinary stem cell biology, bioengineering, and bioethics (see http://stemcells.wisc.edu/training/courses.html).
- A Stem Cell Technology Collaboratory, which fosters interactions between UW researchers and industrial entities and allows students to interact with industry representatives.
- A large number of UW departments and programs engaged in cutting edge stem cell and regenerative medicine research.
General Information
The SCRMC pre-doctoral fellowships are open to graduate students currently working with members of the SCRMC listed on our website http://stemcells.wisc.edu/faculty. Students must be nominated to the SCRMC fellowship program by their graduate thesis mentor, in conjunction with their home department.
The pre-doctoral fellowships will be initially awarded for a one-year period, renewable for a second year upon demonstration of satisfactory progress. Each award will include stipend, tuition, and a $10,000/year allowance to the mentor for research-related expenses.
