How to Apply
I. General Application Procedure
Post-doctoral Fellowships: Prospective postdoctoral applicants must first contact a potential mentor from the list of participating faculty. Only after discussion of potential research projects and mutual agreement may the application be submitted. The mentor must provide a letter of recommendation as part of the application process (may be submitted directly by the mentor).
Graduate Fellowships: Are available to graduate students currently working with members of the SCRMC listed on our website http://stemcells.wisc.edu/faculty. Students must be nominated to the SCRMC fellowship program by their graduate thesis mentor, in conjunction with their home department.

- The proposed mentor must submit a recommendation.
- Letters of recommendation are required from your doctoral (Ph.D., M.D., V.M.D.) advisor and from two other appropriate sources. Please have these sent directly to Sue Gilbert at the address below.
- Complete Curriculum Vitae.
- Copies of Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts and GRE scores.
- Proof of citizenship or permanent resident status (a copy of your birth certificate, passport, naturalization certificate, or permanent resident card) if applying for the NIH T32 Stem Cell Training Program.
III. Application Checklist: Graduate Feloowships

- A letter of recommendation from the graduate student’s mentor (may be submitted directly by the mentor to Sue Gilbert – see below).
- A statement of training, prepared by the mentor, describing the interdisciplinary nature of the student’s thesis research, and detailing a plan for achieving interdisciplinary training. Examples of interdisciplinary training mechanisms include, but are not limited to: i) co-mentorship by investigators in distinct scientific disciplines; ii) enrollment in courses in multiple disciplines; iii) planned “student sabbaticals” that allow for dedicated training time in a discipline outside of the applicant’s area of expertise. - A brief research description, prepared by the student, which includes the specific aims of the graduate thesis project and highlights the significance of the work in stem cell biology and/or regenerative medicine. (1-2 pages)
- An updated version of the student’s curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and presentations. .
- Copies of the applicant’s graduate school application materials, including undergraduate transcripts, graduate record examination (GRE) scores, and letters of recommendation.
IV. Where and When
All applications should be sent or delivered to Sue Gilbert (electonic submission encoraged) Deadline for applications will be November 1, 2008 for review by November 15, 2008.
